Description

Description
This commemorative lighted ornament showcases many of the architectural elements both inside and outside of the Capitol that embody the history and heritage of the Lone Star State. At the very center of the ornament is the Texas State Seal. The State Seal shows a Lone Star encircled by a wreath of olive branches (representing peace) and oak branches (representing strength). To the right of the center is the Goddess of Liberty statue which stands nearly 16 feet tall at the top of the Capitol dome. The Texas Capitol stands at 302.64 feet tall from the Oval Walk to the tip of the star in the hands of the Goddess of liberty. This is almost 15 feet taller than the 288-foot-high U.S. Capitol, confirming that everything is truly bigger in Texas. Texas Lone Stars are shown both above and below the three dominant symbols displayed on the ornament. Adina de Zavala, a savior of the Alamo who spearheaded preserving the historic mission from demolition in the early 20th century, suggested that the star's five points represent the characteristics of a good citizen: fortitude, loyalty, righteousness, prudence, and broadmindedness. The decorative plaster cornices that can be seen throughout the interior of the Capitol are showcased at the very top and bottom of the ornament.

This elegant ornament features 24K gold overlay alongside red, white, and blue accents that represent the colors of the Texas state flag. In 1933, the 43rd Texas Legislature codified the colors of red, blue, and white as representations of “bravery, loyalty, and purity.” Measuring at approximately 3 inches, this ornament comes with a gold ribbon for hanging and makes a perfect gift in its specially designed velvet-lined box. Proceeds support the ongoing preservation and interpretation of the Texas Capitol as well as exhibitions and educational programming at the Bullock Texas State History Museum. Polish with a soft, dry cloth. Made in the USA.
