Summer Field, Oak Cliff depicts the southwest section of Dallas that was annexed by the city in 1903. Artist Edward Gustav Eisenlohr came to Oak Cliff in 1874. After going to school in Europe for two years, he returned to Dallas and worked in a bank. Eisenlohr studied with Frank Reaugh and Robert Jenkins Onderdonk before he began to paint full time at the age of 35. He began to paint scenes in and around Dallas, Taos, Santa Fe and West Texas.
