Description
Juan Nepomuceno Seguin was born in San Antonio in 1806 and later served as alderman and alcalde--a politician and judge--there. He was commissioned a captain by Stephen F. Austin in October 1835 and was supplied the Texian troops with food and provisions. He led the only Tejano unit at the Battle of San Jacinto, accepted the Mexican surrender of San Antonio and served as a Senator for three terms during the Republic of Texas. His portrait is on display in the Legislative Reference Library.
