This map shows the Houston and Texas Central Railroad lines available for sale, received as part of the state and GLO Railroad Scrip Law. Scrip was issued to repay loans incurred by the Republic during the revolution and to address the new government's public debt. Through land scrip, Texas funded and built its infrastructure including railroads and factories.
